Now known as Chromatte from Reflecmedia, Holoset
is a chromakeying solution ideal for virtual sets. The Holoset works
by placing a ring of LEDs called a litering
around the camera lens. The LEDs shine blue or green light onto the
Holoset. The Holoset is made up of millions of microscopic glass beads
which are hemispherically coated in aluminum. This makes the Holoset
covered in literally millions of tiny dish shaped mirrors. The net
optical result is that any light shined onto the Holoset is only reflected
back at it's source. Buy

Because of the unique way that the Holoset reflects
light only back at it's source it can do a number of things that traditional
chroma key techniques cannot. Holoset can work in almost no light,
because the color is generated by the LEDs and the Holoset only sends
like back to the camera so you can light your talent for the virtual
set they are in. This also makes it so the Holoset has no spill since
there are no bright lights reflecting the very color you are trying
to key off the background and onto the talent's hair and shoulders. |

Holoset was the branding the Chromatte was originally
introduced as in the US but has been known worldwide as Chromatte
for quite some time. Now that Reflecmedia distributes the products
through it's distributors and resellers in the US it will be more
commonly found under the Chromatte branding. Chromatte has been around
for many years as a product and is excellent in conjunction with virtual
sets because it allows for unique lighting situations and matting
out of objects like desks and chairs much easier than traditional
chroma key techniques. |
